| GreatLifeMates.com requires that members have access to webcams and either AIM/iChat or Yahoo! Messenger video chat software. Actually, if possible it is suggested to have each of them.
Why do we require access to a webcam and video chat software?
Actually, for several reasons. One is that way we can interview them and make sure their pictures match how they actually look. Another reason is so Members can video chat with other members and actually see how they react to what is being said. And, it is a big plus to see a person you are trying to get to know. Why it won't eliminate all possibilities of deception, it does cut down on a lot of them. And a premise for GreatLifeMates.com is honesty. Honesty leads to trust, which is a great basis for a relationship.
Webcam Video Chat Software
AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) software allows for video chating and is available for Win XP, Win 98, Linux, and Mac. The countries they list for supporting are Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, UK, and USA.
iChat AV software is part of the Apple Mac OS X operating system and is found on all newer Macs. This is our preferred webcam software. Very easy to use, high-quality and compatible with AIM.
Yahoo! Messenger software seems to be the most prevelant across the world and is easily used between computers on different platforms (like Windows and Mac). There are problems at times with reliability.
MSN Messenger is not considered as they do not provide video capabilities across platforms.
